In response to the escalation of the situation, a curfew was imposed in several provinces of Thailand bordering Cambodia from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Cambodia also decided to close border crossings with Thailand.
On December 12, Donald Trump held talks with the prime ministers of both countries — Anuthin Charnvirakul and Hun Manet. After the conversation, Trump announced an agreement to cease all military actions from that day. However, neither prime minister confirmed this agreement in their official statements. Moreover, the Prime Minister of Thailand publicly denied the existence of a ceasefire.
He noted on his Facebook page: "Thailand will continue military actions until the threat to our country and its people disappears."
The Prime Minister of Cambodia, for his part, confirmed the conversation with Trump, but emphasized that his country continues to strive for a peaceful resolution of the conflict based on the agreement signed in October in Kuala Lumpur.
This peace agreement was reached with Trump's mediation, who at the time threatened to cancel trade agreements with both countries in case of violations of the agreements. Nevertheless, tensions at the border had been escalating for several weeks. In November, a mine explosion occurred, injuring four Thai soldiers.
After this incident, Thailand suspended the implementation of the peace agreement, accusing Cambodia of violating it, which was firmly rejected by the Cambodian side. Active hostilities along the border began on December 8.
