The negotiations held in the capital of the UAE were organized with the participation of General Alexus Grinkevich, the commander of the US European Command, who reached an agreement to restore contacts with high-ranking representatives of Russia and Ukraine.
It is worth noting that this military channel was suspended in the fall of 2021, shortly before the start of the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine.
In its statement, the European Command emphasized that maintaining communication between the armed forces is a key aspect for achieving global stability and peace. It also creates opportunities for increasing transparency and reducing tensions.
Additionally, the press release indicates that General Grinkevich, acting as the commander of NATO's Joint Forces in Europe, has the authority to conduct military dialogue with General Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation. This is necessary to prevent mistakes and unintended escalation of conflict with either side.
