Negotiations between the USA and Iran took place in Geneva

The negotiations took place in Geneva on February 26, where the USA was represented by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, appointed by Donald Trump, while Iran was represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The discussions lasted several hours, including morning and evening sessions.

At the end of the morning round, an Axios source reported the disappointment of the American delegates. However, after the evening negotiations, one senior American official noted that the discussions were "positive," without going into details.

During the morning session, Iran presented its proposals regarding the nuclear deal. As a senior Iranian official stated in an interview with Al Jazeera, Tehran is ready to temporarily suspend uranium enrichment, without planning to completely halt the process, dismantle nuclear facilities, or transfer uranium stocks. The proposal implies reducing uranium stocks to a low enrichment level under the control of the IAEA.

According to a CNN source, Iran confirmed its intention not to develop nuclear weapons; however, any agreement would only be possible with the lifting of all US sanctions and UN Security Council resolutions. In this context, it was noted that no nuclear facility would be destroyed, and Iran would continue to develop peaceful nuclear energy.

The mediator of the negotiations, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, stated that "significant progress" had been made by the parties, adding that discussions would continue after consultations in Washington and Tehran.

After the meeting in Geneva, Abbas Araghchi told reporters that these were "the most serious and prolonged negotiations."

The negotiations between the USA and Iran regarding the nuclear program are taking place against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between the countries. In the Trump administration, these discussions are seen as the last opportunity for a diplomatic resolution of the conflict before Trump decides on possible military action against Iran, Axios reports.
