The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the signing of contracts with several leading defense industry companies in the country to increase the production of key components necessary for the American arsenal of munitions. This information was published on the official Pentagon website.
Among the agreements concluded is a contract with Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems, which aims to increase the production of self-guided warheads for the THAAD missile defense system by four times.
Deputy Secretary of Defense for Procurement and Sustainment, Michael Duffy, noted: "Ensuring the security of our supply chain is as critical as our collaboration with key contractors. This agreement with BAE Systems demonstrates clear, stable, and long-term demand. We are providing our partners with the confidence needed for investment, expansion, and hiring new employees. This is how we prepare the industrial base for combat readiness."
The department assures that the country's production capabilities for creating and deploying this defensive weapon will exceed any potential threats posed by adversaries, both for the U.S. and for its allies.
Additionally, the Pentagon, in collaboration with Honeywell Aerospace, has signed a framework contract to increase the production of vital components for the munitions arsenal, including navigation systems and electronic warfare equipment. An agreement has also been signed with Lockheed Martin aimed at accelerating the production of precision strike missiles.
According to Reuters, since the beginning of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in 2022, as well as during military actions in Gaza, the U.S. has reduced its weapon stockpiles by billions of dollars, including artillery systems, munitions, and anti-tank missiles.
