In his message on the social network Truth Social, Trump stated: “At the request of the Iranian government, I am suspending actions to destroy power plants for 10 days, until Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8:00 PM Eastern Time (this corresponds to midnight Greenwich Mean Time on April 7). Negotiations are ongoing and are going quite successfully, despite the false claims of fake news media.”

Over the weekend, Trump threatened to “destroy” Iranian power plants if Tehran did not open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours. In response, Iranian authorities announced their intention to completely close this important maritime route for shipping, as reported by the BBC.

Stating about “productive negotiations” between the US and Iran, Trump on Monday had already ordered to suspend strikes on energy facilities for five days.

On Wednesday, it became known that the American side had provided Iran with a list of 15 conditions for ending the conflict, but Tehran rejected these proposals and put forward its own five-point plan.

It is unclear who exactly the US is negotiating with. Trump mentioned that Iranian officials refuse to acknowledge the fact of negotiations, fearing for their lives.

“They want to make a deal, but are afraid to talk about it, as they fear retribution from their countrymen. They also fear that we might kill them,” Trump said in a conversation with reporters.

After the announcement of the postponement of strikes on Iranian energy, global oil prices began to decline. However, on Thursday, they started to rise again, which is related to concerns about the potential consequences of the ongoing war.

During a government meeting on Thursday, Trump shared information about a gift he received from Iranian authorities. He had previously reported that the Iranians presented him with something valuable but did not specify what exactly.

In response to a question about the progress of negotiations with Iran, Trump said that Tehran is eager to demonstrate its seriousness. He noted that two or three days ago, the Iranians promised to allow eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a “gift,” and those tankers indeed passed.

“I said, ‘It seems we are dealing with the right people.’ And they apologized and promised to let two more tankers through, which ultimately made it ten,” added the US president.

Iran, for its part, denies any negotiations with the US. A member of the Iranian parliament's national security committee, Yakub Rezazadeh, suggested that Washington claims success in negotiations to control oil prices.

At the same time, Israel continues to attack Iranian positions. The IDF reported that in the last 24 hours, the Israeli Air Force carried out about 20 strikes on “launch positions” in western Iran. In a statement from the Israel Defense Forces on the social network X, it was noted that the aviation dropped about 70 munitions on facilities used for storing and launching ballistic missiles and air defense systems, and the military personnel present at these facilities were destroyed. On Thursday, Israel also reported the elimination of the commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Alireza Tangsiri, who controlled the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
