As reported by hacktivists, they gained access to "personal and confidential information" of Patel. They obtained documents, emails, and possibly sensitive files, some of which have been published, including personal correspondence of the FBI chief.

The FBI confirmed the information regarding the attempt of unauthorized access to Patel's email and stated that it has taken all necessary measures to minimize potential risks. It is important to note that the leaked data is not related to the agency's current operations.

According to Axios, the published emails date back to the early 2010s and contain details of Patel's trips from 2012 to 2019, including receipts for airline tickets, train tickets, and hotel booking confirmations. Additionally, among the published materials are photographs of Patel with cars bearing Cuban license plates, a cigar, and a fragment of his resume.

Hacktivists from Handala claim that this hack was a response to the actions of the FBI, which last week seized several domains associated with their group. These measures were taken after Handala claimed responsibility for a cyberattack on the U.S. medical technology company Stryker.

Experts emphasize that this attack could become one of the most significant in the context of the ongoing confrontation between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. They warn that Iranian entities may combine cyberattacks on critical infrastructure with information operations, creating chaos and confusion during the conflict.
