A large-scale incident occurred in South Korea involving the hacking of 120,000 home cameras that were used for secretly observing the personal lives of their owners. The hackers then sold the obtained intimate videos online, as reported by "Baza".
Some of these clips were posted on foreign platforms, where illegal recordings featuring victims from various countries regularly appear.
The South Korean police detained four suspects who gained access not only to home but also to office IP cameras. One of the arrested, an unemployed individual with the initial A., earned about 35 million won (over two million soms) from selling home videos. Another participant, an office worker, hacked 70,000 cameras and created 648 clips, earning about 18 million won (over 1 million soms) in cryptocurrency. The other two individuals, a small business owner D. and office employee E., stored the videos but did not distribute them.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the hackers exploited vulnerabilities in device security: many cameras had the same and simple usernames and passwords.

A criminal case has already been initiated, and three of the four detained individuals are in custody.
