Former head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini detained in fraud case
Recent events have led to the detention of Federica Mogherini, the former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. She was arrested as part of an investigation into fraud related to a diplomat training program funded by the EU. Searches took place in Brussels and several buildings of the College of Europe in Bruges, as reported by the European Public Prosecutor's Office in its press release.
According to the publication Le Soir, three individuals have been arrested in connection with the corruption and misappropriation of budget funds case. Among them is Mogherini, who currently serves as the director of the College of Europe, as well as former Secretary-General of the EU diplomatic service Stefano Sannino and the deputy director of the College.

Prior to the arrests, the European Public Prosecutor's Office obtained the lifting of immunity for some suspects, which allowed for the detentions to take place.

Federica Mogherini headed the EU's foreign policy service from 2014 to 2019.
