For lobbying Azerbaijan. A former Bundestag deputy was arrested in Germany
The court in Germany issued an arrest warrant for Axel Fischer, a former Bundestag deputy, who is suspected of receiving bribes for lobbying the interests of Azerbaijan. This was reported by Spiegel.

Fischer, who represented the conservative party CDU, is to be forcibly brought to court to face charges related to financial bribes from Azerbaijan.

Since the beginning of the year, a trial has been ongoing against him, accusing him of delivering speeches in support of Azerbaijan at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe for monetary compensation.

Fischer has repeatedly ignored court hearings and was temporarily in a clinic in Bad Säckingen. However, court-appointed experts deemed him capable of participating in the proceedings.

Despite this, he again failed to appear at the hearing, which served as the basis for his arrest. He is currently under medical supervision in Munich and will be held in a detention center for at least until the start of the first court hearing.

According to the investigation materials, it was established in 2018 that some members of PACE received bribes from Azerbaijan to lobby for the interests of this country in Europe. Axel Fischer is accused of voting in accordance with the wishes of the Baku authorities, making pro-Azerbaijani statements, and passing confidential documents.
