
Suspect in a corruption case
Grigol Liluashvili, the former head of the State Security Service of Georgia, has been detained by law enforcement agencies. This was announced on Tuesday at a press conference by the country's Attorney General, Giorgi Gvarakidze, as reported by the Xinhua News Agency.
According to Gvarakidze's statements, Liluashvili is accused of several crimes, including receiving a bribe in particularly large amounts in collusion with a group of individuals by prior agreement. This carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of 11 to 15 years.
The prosecution has filed a motion for preventive detention.
Liluashvili served as the head of the State Security Service of Georgia from October 17, 2019, to April 2, 2025.
