A Kyrgyzstani Miraculously Avoided Prison for Cutting Down 30 Birches in Kamchatka

In Kamchatka, a court process has concluded against a citizen of Kyrgyzstan who came to Russia in search of work and was caught illegally cutting down more than 30 white birch trees. This was reported by the news outlet M-MEDIA.

During the proceedings, the young man admitted his guilt and compensated for the damage amounting to 53,000 rubles (approximately 59,000 soms). His remorse and positive references played a key role in reaching an agreement with the prosecution, which allowed him to avoid criminal punishment.

The judges also noted that in Russia, strict penalties are imposed for illegal logging, including fines of up to 3 million rubles or imprisonment for up to seven years.
