The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic commented on recent reports regarding the sentencing of citizen J.S.A., who was detained for arms smuggling.
According to the American side, the Kyrgyz citizen was arrested in 2025, and the court's decision on his case was made on January 22 of this year.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that since the arrest of the Kyrgyz citizen, consular institutions promptly established contact with him and provided the necessary assistance. There was also ongoing interaction with him, including consultations on the protection of his rights and interests in accordance with international law and U.S. legislation.
It is worth noting that according to the U.S. Department of Justice, Kyrgyz citizen Sergey Zharnovnikov had been smuggling arms to Russia through the territory of Kyrgyzstan amounting to 1.5 million dollars since 2020, using a company registered in Bishkek for this activity.
