According to the museum, this is the first public display of the damaged artifact since the theft.
The crown of Napoleon III's wife turned out to be severely deformed. Out of eight golden eagles, one is missing, as well as ten diamonds out of 1,354. However, all 56 emeralds remain in place.
The Louvre plans to restore the crown and will soon announce a competition among restorers. Its advisory committee will include representatives from well-known jewelry brands such as Cartier, Mellerio, Chaumet, Boucheron, and Van Cleef & Arpels.
