The theft took place early in the morning on October 15. Among the stolen items are works by artist Florence Reznikov, Native American baskets, carved walrus tusks, as well as various badges and medals.
According to Lori Fogarty, the museum director, this loss is felt not only by the institution but also by the entire community of California. She expressed hope that residents would help return the stolen items. It is worth noting that in 2013, a gold box from the Gold Rush era was stolen from the same museum, which was returned thanks to the assistance of local residents.

According to the police, this incident was not a premeditated robbery but occurred accidentally. Currently, investigative authorities are checking online platforms such as eBay and Craigslist, as the criminals may have attempted to sell the stolen items. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.
Similar robbery cases have recently occurred in other countries: in Paris, Napoleon's jewels were stolen from the Louvre, and in Egypt, a robbery took place involving a gold bracelet that is about 3000 years old.
