Previously, police had already arrested two suspects in this crime. One of them was apprehended on October 25 at Charles de Gaulle Airport while attempting to leave the country for Algeria; the other was captured in Seine-Saint-Denis, located near Paris.
The robbery at the Louvre occurred on October 19, when criminals dressed as workers stole royal jewels from the collection of Napoleon and Empress Joséphine, including a brooch, necklace, and diadem. A broken crown belonging to Empress Eugénie, the wife of Napoleon III, was also found outside the museum building.
