On August 31, 1991, the session of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic adopted the Declaration of State Independence, which proclaimed that the Kyrgyz Republic is an independent sovereign democratic state. The Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, adopted on May 5, 1993, legally established the formation of the sovereign state of Kyrgyzstan. The country introduced a presidential form of government, which has changed over 24 years and is now a parliamentary form of government. The Kyrgyz Republic acquired the attributes of statehood (coat of arms, flag, anthem), and most importantly, a homeland with its borders. The people of Kyrgyzstan have determined and taken a strategic course towards the democratic transformation of the country.
The sovereignty of the Kyrgyz Republic is a stage in the modern history of Kyrgyzstan. The holiday of the sovereign state is celebrated by all representatives of states that live and support the people of Kyrgyzstan.
