State Flag of Kyrgyzstan
Flag
Often, while watching television broadcasts, we witness the national flag of a country being raised to the solemn melody of the national anthem during official state events, the Olympic Games, and other international sports competitions. A special feeling of pride overwhelms a person when it is the flag of their homeland.
The state flag is one of the main symbols of sovereign Kyrgyzstan, its distinguishing mark. It is hoisted on the buildings of the highest state authorities, state institutions, and Kyrgyz embassies abroad, as well as at major international organizations. It is raised at solemn ceremonies conducted by state and public bodies. Among the many flags of the world's nations, the State Flag of the Kyrgyz Republic also flies in front of the United Nations building in the USA and in front of the main building of UNESCO (the intergovernmental organization of the UN for education, science, and culture) in France.
The State Flag of our country was approved on March 3, 1992. The authors of the flag are scholar Sabyr Iptarov, artists Bekbosun Zhaichibekov, Jusup Mataev, and architects Mamatbek Sydykov and Edil Aydarbekov.
The State Flag of the Kyrgyz Republic consists of a red field, in the center of which is a sun disc with golden rays radiating from it in a circular pattern. In the middle of the disc is an image of the tündük — symbolizing the yurt, the traditional dwelling of the Kyrgyz people.
It is no coincidence that the authors chose this design. Since ancient times, the Kyrgyz have believed that if the tündük is open and smoke is curling above it, it means there is life and harmony here. The circular rim of the tündük on the national flag embodies the continuity of life, while the intersecting triple lines on it represent the strings of the Kyrgyz komuz. The sun and the forty golden rays symbolize a future illuminated by light and warmth for the equal citizens of Kyrgyzstan. The red color of the flag represents the freedom that the Kyrgyz people have defended throughout their long history.
When taking an oath of allegiance to the Motherland, soldiers kiss the flag and respectfully kneel. Every citizen should respect this sacred symbol and do everything to ensure that the flag of the Kyrgyz Republic flies proudly and freely.
