In the document, it is noted that "the member states of the SCO express deep concern regarding the current events in the Middle East, including military strikes directed against Iran.
The SCO emphasizes that the use of force is unacceptable and calls for the resolution of all disputes exclusively through peaceful means, based on dialogue, mutual respect, and consideration of the legitimate interests of all parties in accordance with international law and the fundamental principles of the UN Charter," the statement reads.
The necessity to protect the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Iran was also highlighted in the address. The SCO urges all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that could exacerbate the conflict.
The United Nations and the UN Security Council have been called upon by the SCO to take immediate measures to prevent further undermining of international peace and security.
The SCO also expressed condolences to the families of those who died during the attacks and reaffirmed its support for the government and people of Iran.
The conflict began on February 28, when Israel and the United States launched numerous air and missile strikes against Iranian cities and military facilities. Iran responded to these actions by attacking Israel and American military bases in several countries in the Middle East. Several high-ranking Iranian officials and military personnel were killed at the onset of the attacks. U.S. President Donald Trump announced the start of the military operation "Epic Fury" immediately after the first strikes.
Among the casualties was the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and about ten other high-ranking officials from Tehran.
Tensions in the region remain high.
