The situation at the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated yesterday when Pakistani military aircraft struck Afghan positions in Nangarhar province. According to Geo TV, this attack destroyed a large ammunition depot.

What is the current situation?

Since February 26, new clashes have erupted at the border. These events are a continuation of the long-standing confrontation between the countries, the roots of which lie in disputes over the Durand Line established by the British in 1893. This line divided Pashtun tribes, which is not recognized by Afghanistan, and the conflict continues to this day.

In response to the airstrikes by Pakistan, Kabul announced the start of large-scale military operations. The Taliban claim to have captured more than ten Pakistani military bases along the border.

The Afghan Ministry of Defense reported fighting in five border provinces, where, according to sources, up to 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed, and some were taken prisoner.

According to Pakistani authorities, significant damage was inflicted on Taliban military infrastructure during the clashes. They report the destruction of more than 36 tanks, artillery pieces, and armored personnel carriers.

Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that 133 Taliban were killed in the operation "Ghazab lil-Haq," with more than 200 injured. He noted that 27 Taliban bases were destroyed and 9 were captured.

Additionally, local media report that one of the Pakistani military aircraft was shot down in Afghan airspace.

Today, Pakistan carried out an airstrike on the capital of Afghanistan; gunfire erupted in Kabul, near the presidential palace, and fighter jets attacked a Taliban military corps in the Darul Aman area.
