The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has completed the investigation into the incident involving the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, which crashed on the territory of Kazakhstan after sustaining damage in Russian airspace. This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.

He noted that an official notification about the termination of the investigation was received from the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin. In the letter, as Bayramov stated, there is information that raises "very serious questions" for the Azerbaijani side.

On the eve, the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan published an interim report on the investigation, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the tragedy, which presents the results of several expert examinations.

According to preliminary conclusions by the Kazakh commission, the damage to the aircraft could have been caused by elements of an explosive device. However, as stated in the report, it was not possible to determine their origin.

It is worth recalling that on December 25, 2024, the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, operating a flight from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the Aktau airport. It was forced to make an emergency landing after several unsuccessful attempts in Russia. As a result of the crash, 38 people died, and 29 survivors were hospitalized.

Among the injured were three citizens of Kyrgyzstan. On December 30, they were transported back to their homeland for further treatment.

According to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijani airline was paid an insurance compensation of 1.003 billion rubles for the damaged aircraft.

As stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin in October during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart, one of the reasons for the tragedy was Ukrainian drones.
