According to an official statement from the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan, the incident occurred on the night of December 24, when three members of a terrorist group illegally crossed the border from Afghanistan in the area of post No. 5 "Bog" of the "Sarchashma" border detachment, located in the Shamsiddin Shohin district.
On the morning of December 24, the location of the violators was established. During an attempt to detain them, they offered armed resistance, which led to a combat operation, during which all three were eliminated. Firearms, grenades, explosives, and ammunition were found at the scene.
As a result of the clash, two servicemen of the border troops were killed — Zirekhbon Navruzbekov and Ismatullo Kurbonov, as reported by official sources.
It should be noted that there had previously been a shootout on the Tajik-Afghan border, during which two Tajik border guards and three armed Afghans were killed. In this regard, Dushanbe demanded an apology from Kabul and called for increased security measures along the border.
