An incident occurred on the Tajik-Afghan border, resulting in the deaths of two Tajik servicemen: 28-year-old Ismatullo Kurbonov and 33-year-old Zirebon Navruzbekov. This was reported by a source to "Radio Ozodi".

According to the information, the clash took place on December 24 in the area of Shamsiddin Shohin. It is specified that a group of Afghan smugglers crossed the border, leading to a shootout in which the Tajik border guards were killed, and several others were injured. One of the suspected smugglers was apprehended.

Afghan media report that in response to gunfire from Afghan territory, two Tajik border guards were killed, and during the return fire, two Afghans were killed.

Interestingly, this event occurred on the same day that Tajikistan opened four new border checkpoints along its border with Afghanistan.

The length of the Tajik-Afghan border is approximately 1,400 kilometers. Despite assurances from the Taliban movement, which came to power in Kabul in 2021, that Afghan territory would not be used by terrorist groups to attack neighboring countries, Tajik authorities continue to express concern about the situation on the border, especially in the context of the infiltration of militants and drug trafficking.
