The Israeli army (IDF) confirmed the return of the body of the last hostage who died as a result of actions by Hamas. This was reported in an official statement from the military.

The body of Senior Police Sergeant Ran Gwili was found and identified. He became a victim of the hostage-taking that occurred during the militants' attack on Israel in October 2023.

Thus, Israel has received all its hostages taken by Hamas, both alive and deceased.

According to Axios, the return of Ran Gwili marks an important step towards implementing the second phase of the peace plan in Gaza proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. This phase includes the demilitarization of the sector and the establishment of a new government with security forces. Israel previously announced its intention to open the "Rafah" crossing on the border with Egypt after completing search operations for the body of the last hostage.

It is worth noting that all living hostages were released by Hamas on October 13. This agreement was reached as part of the peace plan proposed by the White House, and the exchange took place in two phases.

It is important to remember that on October 7, 2023, the situation in the Middle East escalated when Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization in the U.S. and EU, launched an attack on Israel. As a result of this attack, around 1,200 people were killed, and more than 250 individuals were taken hostage and transported to the Gaza Strip.
