Employees of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) arrested the head of the Naryn city education department on suspicion of extorting money from the directors of educational institutions, as reported by the agency's press service.
According to information received from the GKNB, employees of the Naryn City Education Department abused their official position by illegally demanding amounts ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 soms from the heads of schools and kindergartens in Naryn.
The collected funds were allegedly intended for an inspector of the Accounts Chamber of the Kyrgyz Republic to conceal financial violations.
During a search in the office of the detainees, 68,000 soms were found and seized, as well as a list of 17 educational institutions in Naryn indicating the amounts received.
The court has decided to place the head of the city education department in custody during the investigative actions.
