In Kyrgyzstan, there are plans to tighten penalties for traffic accidents that result in human casualties. This was announced by the head of the president's office of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kanibek Tumanbaev, during a live broadcast.

Tumanbaev noted that changes to the legislation are currently being actively developed, aimed at increasing responsibility for drivers operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or without valid driver's licenses.

"In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of accidents involving teenagers aged 16-17 who are driving without a license. Often, drivers do not realize that when stopping a vehicle at a pedestrian crossing, they must also reduce speed. Many of them are unaware of traffic rules and continue to drive at high speeds. In case of car troubles, such as a flat tire or engine failure, drivers have no idea how to behave. This indicates a lack of knowledge regarding road safety," he noted.

Tumanbaev also emphasized that, at the initiative of the country's president, a reform of the training and monitoring system for drivers will begin.

"Only by increasing the requirements for knowledge of the rules and strengthening penalties for violations can we form more responsible participants in road traffic. The implementation of this reform will take approximately 4-5 years, but we are confident that we will bring it to a successful conclusion," added the head of the president's office.
