Recent photos of blue dogs in the Chernobyl zone have attracted the attention of internet users. Many began to speculate about possible mutations or the effects of radiation. However, it turned out that the reason for the unusual fur color is much more mundane.

Sergey Kireev reported that the blue dogs are the result of special marking conducted after sterilization. This is done to distinguish sterilized animals from unsterilized ones. This initiative is being implemented by volunteers and organizations engaged in animal protection, with the aim of controlling the population of stray dogs living in the vicinity of the former nuclear power plant.

After the tragic incident at the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986, thousands of people were forced to leave their homes, leaving behind their pets, including dogs. Over the years, the number of dogs has significantly increased, and their population is now controlled through sterilization and vaccination to prevent the spread of diseases.
