In place of this arch, which has served as a landmark for the city's residents for many years, an elite residential complex is planned for construction. The project includes 12 blocks and is expected to feature 1,042 apartments.
Local residents emphasize in their comments that this arch held historical value and was an integral part of the city's appearance. However, the developer began its demolition without prior notification to the public.
As of now, there have been no official comments from the city authorities. According to available information, the arch and the fence of the Champagne Winemaking Plant, located on Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue, are included in the State Register of Monuments. The arch was built in 1953, and the plant itself produced six types of champagne and other beverages since 1957, manufacturing up to 5 million bottles of alcohol per year and providing jobs for about 500 people.
