According to the World Health Organization, approximately 10,000 people die from rabies each year, with the majority being children.
The symptoms of the disease may manifest as fever, general weakness, sleep disturbances, and redness at the site of the bite. In later stages, symptoms include excessive salivation, convulsions, and fear of water and light. Once these symptoms appear, the disease becomes incurable.
Preventing the disease is crucial:
- be sure to vaccinate dogs and cats annually;
- avoid contact with stray animals;
- do not allow children to play with stray animals;
- if your pet shows aggression, salivates, or behaves unusually, contact a veterinarian immediately.
- thoroughly wash the wound with soap;
- treat it with an antiseptic solution;
- seek medical attention urgently.
