In the Naryn region, in the At-Bashy district, there is an increase in the incidence of skin infections, particularly dermatophyte infections, also known as "temir ötkü" or "chakalay." This was reported by Aina Gul Nogoybaeva, a dermatologist-venereologist who has been working at the local family medicine center for over fifty years.

According to the specialist, the number of cases of infectious skin diseases has noticeably increased in recent months. Last year, there were 20 recorded cases of dermatophyte infections, while this year there have already been 25. The incidence of scabies infections has also risen, from 5 to 15 cases. These figures indicate serious problems with the spread of contagious skin diseases in the region.

The disease particularly affects children, especially teenagers involved in sports. They often perceive dermatophyte infections as a common "ringworm" and undergo treatment; however, the disease can return. This is due to its high contagiousness: the infection spreads through damaged skin during handshakes, the use of shared towels, and training on mats. If regular disinfection of sports equipment is not conducted, fungal infections can continue to spread.

Nogoybaeva calls on everyone—parents, educators, and healthcare workers—to unite for the prevention of such diseases and to strictly adhere to sanitary and hygienic standards.

Dermatophyte infection is a fungal infection that affects the skin, hair, and nails. It is commonly referred to as "ringworm" or "temir ötkü." The disease is caused by fungi that feed on skin and are easily transmitted between people.

Main symptoms:

• round or oval spots on the skin

• redness and peeling

• itching

• sometimes hair breakage or bald patches on the head

Ways of transmission:

• through close contact (handshakes, wrestling, games)

• through shared towels, clothing, and bedding

• through sports mats and equipment if they are not disinfected

• from pets (cats and dogs)

Children and teenagers, especially those involved in sports, are the most susceptible to the disease.

Although the disease is contagious, it can be treated. It is important to see a doctor in a timely manner, complete the full course of treatment, and follow hygiene requirements; otherwise, dermatophyte infection may recur.
