The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic has drawn citizens' attention to the serious threat of rabies and provided recommendations for protecting themselves and their loved ones.

According to the agency, around 10,000 deaths from rabies are registered worldwide each year, a significant number of which are children. "Rabies is an extremely dangerous viral disease that can affect both humans and animals. The infection is transmitted through the bite of an infected animal or its saliva; however, the disease does not spread from person to person. Delayed medical attention inevitably leads to a fatal outcome," the statement emphasizes.

The first signs of the disease include: fever, general malaise, sleep disturbances, and redness at the bite site.

In later stages, symptoms such as excessive salivation, convulsions, as well as fear of water and light can be observed. Once these signs appear, the disease becomes incurable.

Rabies prevention plays a key role:

— do not forget to vaccinate your dogs and cats annually;

— avoid contact with stray animals;

— do not allow children to play with stray animals;

— if your pet becomes aggressive, drools, or exhibits unusual behavior — urgently consult a veterinarian.

If you are bitten by an animal:

— thoroughly wash the wound with soap and water;

— treat the bite area with iodine or antiseptic;

— seek medical attention immediately.
