At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Law and Order, held on January 13, Deputy Abdyladbek Egemberdiev expressed concern about the effectiveness of average speed control on the roads.
He emphasized that drivers are capable of adapting to travel time calculations by making stops to avoid fines.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktobyr Urmambetov reported that Kyrgyzstan plans to transition from the "Safe City" project to a more ambitious initiative called "Safe Country." This program aims to enhance road control capabilities, including the implementation of an average speed monitoring system.
According to Urmambetov, this measure is extremely important, as 70% of serious traffic accidents occur due to speeding. He stressed that drivers need to adhere to speed limits consistently, not just when they see cameras or traffic police patrols. The main goal of this innovation is to reduce the number of accidents and protect human lives, the deputy minister added.
He previously mentioned a trial period for average speed control on the Bishkek—Tokmok highway, providing additional details about its implementation here.
