At the meeting of the Committee on Law and Order of the Jogorku Kenesh, held on January 13, Deputy Nurbek Sydygaliev proposed raising the age limit for obtaining a driver's license in Kyrgyzstan to 20 or 21 years.
In his opinion, this measure could help reduce the number of road traffic accidents involving young drivers. He also suggested that the Ministry of Internal Affairs analyze accident statistics among youth, focusing on the age group of 18 to 21 years.
Sydygaliev noted that cases of traffic accidents involving teenagers often occur when they use cars without parental consent. He emphasized that a later issuance of driver's licenses could increase the level of responsibility among drivers.
"If we see high accident rates among youth, it may make sense to consider issuing licenses not at 17-18 years, but at 20-21 years," he added.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Oktobyr Urmambetov noted that this proposal will be discussed in more detail during upcoming events aimed at improving road safety.
