In the Batken region, in the city of Kadamjay, there are currently over 15,000 residents.

The city is located in the Kadamjay district, along the Ak-Suu River. It was founded on September 27, 2012, in accordance with the law of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 168, which included the settlement of Kadamjay and the villages of Pulgon, Tashkyya, and Chaltash, previously subordinate to the rural district of Orozbekov.

The main economic center of Kadamjay is the Kadamjay Antimony Plant, which also houses additional production sites and workshops.

Kadamjay is known for its outstanding individuals. Among them are: Hero of Socialist Labor Aziz Toktobaev, labor and war veteran Abdinabi Samatov, deputy of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz SSR Zamira Tuygunova, honored figure of industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, analytical chemist Anipa Alymova, Major General of Justice Aitmatova Tursunay, and honored doctor of the Kyrgyz Republic Farida Osmonova.

The name "Kadamjay" has deep historical roots. According to legend, 1,400 years ago, Azret-Ali, the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad and his faithful follower, stopped here to perform prayer. The legend states that the stone on which he stood became soft, and his imprint remained on the surface. Thus, this place received the name Kadamjay, which translates to "Sacred Footprint."

Throughout its history, Kadamjay has been part of ancient trade routes connecting Fergana, Syr Darya, and the Alai passes.

On December 22, 1930, as part of an administrative reform in the Osh region, 24 districts were formed, including the Kyzyl-Kiy district with its center in the village of Uch-Korgon.

On April 1, 1937, this district was renamed Molotovsky, and in 1938, the Khamlion district was separated from it. On October 19, 1940, the district was named Frunze. In 1959, after the dissolution of the Uch-Korgon district, parts of it were annexed to Frunze.

On March 15, 1991, the district council decided to return the historical name.

According to the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic dated March 6, 1992, the Frunze district was renamed Kadamjay.

Kadamjay was founded in 1936 as a settlement for metallurgists at the antimony plant and received the status of a workers' settlement in 1941 under the name Frunze.

After Kyrgyzstan gained independence, as a result of the decision of the Kadamjay district council, the settlement of Frunze was renamed Kadamjay.
