In Karakol, which is the administrative center of the Issyk-Kul region, you can still see many historical buildings, some of which were constructed over a century ago.

One such object is the pharmacy building, built 130 years ago.

As previously reported by Turmush, this building is located at: Lenin Street, house 141 [Tynystanova]. It was erected between 1895 and 1897 by merchant Eriska with the intention of using it as a residential space.

Later, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, a medical point was organized in this building, where military personnel and border guards received treatment.

In 1899, the third pharmacy in Kyrgyzstan opened here, the first being the pharmacy in Pishpek and the second in Osh.

Today, a pharmacy continues to operate in this building.

Turmush also reported that according to the emperor's decree of March 7, 1889, the city of Karakol was renamed Przhevalsk.

As Kaulbars mentioned: “I am proud that our city bears the name of Przhevalsky – the famous explorer of Asia.”

In 1874, a school with two classes was established in Przhevalsk, and in 1879, the number of classes increased to four. A school called "Maktab" opened in the Tatar mosque, where the basics of the Quran, history, geography, mathematics, and Muslim grammar were taught.

From 1890, people began to migrate to the city from the central provinces of Russia and Ukraine. According to data from 1897, the population of Przhevalsk exceeded 8,000, and by 1919 it had reached 11,610.

In 1894, Nikolai Mikhailovich Barsov was elected the first elder of the city, who, according to historical data, significantly contributed to the development of the city. His initiatives led to the creation of a dramatic circle and the construction of schools, boarding houses, and libraries. In 1895, thanks to his efforts, a park was laid out, now known as the A. Pushkin Park.

Military doctor Barsov attended the solemn opening of the Przhevalsk City Public Library on May 14, 1902, which was established at his initiative.

On March 19, 1908, the coat of arms of the city of Karakol was approved, which was also used for some time as the coat of arms of the Issyk-Kul district.

In 1909, the head of the district was V.A. Ivanov, his assistant was A.I. Belyaev, and the elder of the city became E.S. Lokshakov. Local residents engaged in agriculture, fishing, and beekeeping. That year, 5,200 poods of honey were produced in Przhevalsk, and trade was actively developing.

In 1913, the first magazine "Przhevalsky Rural Host" was published. In 1918, 7 schools, a women's gymnasium, an educational institution for men, and 4 madrasahs opened. The city became an important base for Russian and foreign scholars researching Asia.

At a meeting held on May 25, 1918, the establishment of Soviet power in Przhevalsk was announced.
