Education plays a key role in preventing the threat of nuclear weapons - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

At the conference "Education for Peace and Security," taking place today in Bishkek, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Asein Isaev, emphasized the importance of educational initiatives in the field of nuclear disarmament.

According to Isaev, the initiative to commemorate this day was supported by the international community. He noted that the United Nations approved the proposal to celebrate this day in all countries to raise awareness about the risks associated with nuclear weapons.

“This day cannot be called a celebration, as the issue of nuclear weapons remains pressing. Kyrgyzstan, being a developing country, does not possess nuclear weapons, and it is important for us to understand how to ensure our security and protect ourselves. We believe that through education and informing the population, we can convey to people how dangerous nuclear weapons are and that their use is unacceptable,” he stressed.

Isaev also recalled the tragic events in Hiroshima and Nagasaki that occurred in 1945, noting that the consequences of the use of nuclear weapons serve as a warning for all humanity.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister stated that after gaining independence, Kyrgyzstan reaffirmed its position against nuclear weapons. This initiative was supported by other Central Asian states, which advocated for the creation of a nuclear-free zone in the region.

“The five nuclear powers — the USA, Russia, China, France, and the UK have given guarantees to the Central Asian countries that they will never use nuclear weapons against us. They committed not to threaten the states of the region, regardless of possible conflicts,” he added.
