According to information presented at the meeting of the Housing Committee on Social Issues, Health Care, and Labor, about 430,000 citizens of Kyrgyzstan live with viral hepatitis B, C, and D. This data was provided by the head of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for the Control of Viral Infections, Zuridin Nurmatov.

Nurmatov noted that official figures do not always reflect the real situation, as they are based on visits to medical institutions and emergency notifications.

According to him, approximately 3.3% of the population is infected with hepatitis B, which amounts to about 231,000 people. Hepatitis C is found in 2.3% of the population (about 161,000), while hepatitis D is present in 0.6% (42,000 people). These viral hepatitis infections often occur without symptoms, leading to their detection at later stages of the disease.

He also added that the highest prevalence of hepatitis is observed among the adult population. Studies show that the level of hepatitis B is highest in the age groups of 30-39 years (6.3%) and 40-49 years (4.3%). At the same time, among children and adolescents, the infection rate is significantly lower, which is related to the implementation of preventive vaccination, although the infection rate of hepatitis A among children remains high.

Nurmatov emphasized the importance of vaccination to reduce the number of new cases of hepatitis and related diseases, such as cirrhosis and liver cancer. Expanding the vaccination program in the future could significantly reduce morbidity in the country.

Currently, vaccination of the adult population against hepatitis B continues in the republic, which requires three doses.
