The international human rights group Civil Rights Defenders reacted positively to the decision to place Mahabat Tajibek kyzy under house arrest.

In its official statement, the organization noted that this decision will allow the journalist to return to her family and reunite with her minor son after more than two years of detention.

However, Civil Rights Defenders reiterated the need for the complete dismissal of the criminal case against her. They reminded that since Tajibek kyzy's arrest, she and her colleagues have called on the Kyrgyz authorities to drop all unfounded charges brought against her in response to her legitimate journalistic activities.

“Mahabat Tajibek kyzy must be fully acquitted and rehabilitated,” the statement said.

It was also mentioned that Judge Temirbek Mamatov, who continued to hear the case after the Supreme Court's decision, refused to dismiss the case and acquit the journalist. Furthermore, she has been subjected to a travel ban, and the case awaits re-examination.

Mahabat Tajibek kyzy, who led the anti-corruption investigation projects Temirov Live and "Ait ait dese," was detained in January 2024 along with other current and former staff members of the editorial office. In October of the same year, she was sentenced to six years in prison on charges of inciting mass riots.

According to Civil Rights Defenders, the other defendants in this case have already been released, either being pardoned, acquitted, or released on probation.
