This decision was made by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). As for more experienced athletes, their participation will become possible after the restoration of the status of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC).
A similar decision was also made by United World Wrestling (UWW), which allowed Russian wrestlers under 24 to participate in international competitions using the flag and anthem of Russia. However, the issue of allowing adult wrestlers remains unresolved and will be discussed at the next meeting of the organization's bureau.
After the start of the full-scale war of Russia against Ukraine in 2022, restrictions were imposed on the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions and the Olympic Games. In February 2025, Russian wrestlers will be able to compete under the UWW flag, while until that time they have been participating in tournaments with a neutral status.
