- In Kyrgyzstan, the construction of 11 rest points out of 20 planned has been completed, while another 9 facilities are in the process of implementation. This was stated by the director of the Tourism Support and Development Fund, Adilet Januzakov, in an interview on the radio.

Januzakov noted that the main goal of the rest points is their social orientation, aimed at both tourists and the local population.

“These facilities are not commercial and are not intended for profit. The main task is to create basic amenities for travelers along the roads, such as sanitary conditions and the possibility of short-term rest,” he explained.

According to him, the existing rest points are functioning quite successfully. Currently, work is underway to finalize the documentation and improve the infrastructure for the remaining facilities. In the future, there are plans to increase the number of such points across the country annually.

Januzakov also noted that there are various opinions in society regarding the format of the rest points.

“Some citizens believe that these facilities should be more multifunctional and include not only sanitary zones but also small trading points where locals can sell their products, as well as accommodation areas,” he added.

In this regard, the Tourism Support and Development Fund, together with ARIS and with financial support from international organizations, is considering the possibility of creating three comprehensive rest points in the south of the country. The project is planned to be implemented in a pilot format in 2026,” Januzakov reported.

Additionally, an inventory of the already existing rest points is being conducted, during which their location, traffic, and demand are being assessed. Based on the analysis, proposals will be prepared for the management to help make appropriate decisions.

Januzakov added that the concept of rest points will be maintained and developed. He emphasized that such facilities should be located not only along highways but also in mountainous areas where tourist activity is observed, ensuring minimal infrastructure, including water supply, sewage, and electricity.
