The Director of the National Center for the Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, Shaiyrbek Sulaymanov, stated on the air of the radio station "Birinchi Radio" that the implementation of perinatal screening in the republic could significantly reduce cases of severe congenital defects by 15%.

He noted that currently about 18,000 children with disabilities are receiving state benefits.

According to Sulaymanov, perinatal screening will not only help identify developmental defects but will also provide support for parents. "Every year, 2-3 thousand children with congenital anomalies are born in Kyrgyzstan," he added.

The doctor also reported that there is a trend towards a decrease in infant mortality, which over the past 11 months has amounted to 11.2 cases per 1,000 live births.
