The Director of the National Center for the Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, Shaiyrbek Sulaymanov, reported on "Birinchi Radio" that after the pandemic, the number of newborns in Kyrgyzstan has decreased by 11%.

According to him, before the pandemic, about 158,000 children were born annually in the country.

As part of the new program "Ümüt," which will operate from 2023 to 2026, measures are planned to protect the health of women and children.

The program covers three key areas:

Sulaymanov emphasized that "Ümüt" represents a new approach to the health protection of women and children. The demographic situation in the country continues to be challenging: while before the pandemic the birth rate was 158,000, it has now decreased to 140,000, and 2% of newborns have various developmental disorders. To address this issue, perinatal screening is being introduced.

Additionally, he noted that the government provides benefits to approximately 18,000 children.
