Lukashenko noted: "Bakiev lives quite comfortably. I have already told him: 'No trips, stay in Belarus.' He is doing well, and I visit him from time to time. But I will not hand him over to you. He misses his homeland very much and says that he would like to at least visit his father's grave. It is terrible that the Kyrgyz people do not allow their ex-president to come to his father's grave. I am confident that we can resolve this issue with the current leadership of Kyrgyzstan."

It is worth noting that in the last two years, the return of Kurmanbek Bakiev, who was convicted for his actions, has been periodically raised by the authorities of Kyrgyzstan. In March 2024, Sadyr Japarov reported on negotiations with Minsk regarding his return. The president believes that Bakiev could contribute to the investigation of cases related to the export of gold from the country and present his version of the events of April 2010. He also stated in one interview that if Bakiev comes to Kyrgyzstan, an open trial will be held. In April 2025, the Constitutional Court supported the right to review his absentia sentence. It should be recalled that Bakiev was sentenced to 30 years in prison to be served in a high-security colony, along with the confiscation of property.
