Namatoff Satybaldy (1905-1938)

Namatov Satybaldy (1905-1938) - one of the first enlighteners of Kyrgyzstan, actively engaged in the elimination of illiteracy among the population of the republic.
He was born in the village of Kazybek in the At-Bashinsky district into a noble family. He studied Arabic grammar at a local school. He graduated from the Zheti-Su (Alma-Ata) Institute of Education.
He taught at the pedagogical institute opened in 1931 in Frunze. He published a considerable number of works for that time (more than 40 titles). He was one of the first to publish a textbook on the methodology of teaching the Kyrgyz language. He raised issues of polytechnical education in secondary schools. He was fluent in Russian and engaged in translation activities (translated works of M. Gorky and A. Fadeev into Kyrgyz).
He was closely friends with K. Tynystanov, E. D. Pol Ivanov, T. Aktanov, and other enlighteners.
In 1937, he was arrested as an "active participant in the counter-revolutionary organization 'Social-Turan Party,' as a methodologist of the People's Commissariat of Education of the Kyrgyz SSR, promoting counter-revolutionary ideas in educational materials." He was sentenced to the highest measure of punishment. The sentence was carried out on February 14, 1938. He was rehabilitated in 1956.
