Kyrgyz. Born in the village of Keldyk in the Uzgen district of Osh region. Graduated from the Philological Faculty of KSU (1959), postgraduate studies at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR (1965). Worked as a teacher in secondary school, junior researcher at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, head of the literary and dramatic broadcasting editorial office of the State Committee for Television and Radio of the Kyrgyz SSR, senior lecturer, associate professor at KSU, first deputy chief editor of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia, head of the sector for interrelations of national literatures, advisor to the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic to Uzbekistan, professor at KGNU, vice-rector, and since 2001 - director of the Institute of Humanities at KTU "Manas".
Specialist in the field of literary studies. Awarded Honorary Certificates from the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR (2), and the "Dank" medal. Laureate of the award "For Contributions to the Development of the Culture of the Turkic World" (Turkey, 1999). Published over 300 scientific works, including 4 monographs and 1 textbook for schools (co-authored).
