In the biosphere zone "Issyk-Kul," a winter count of waterfowl and wetland birds took place, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources on January 27.

This event was organized by the biosphere territory directorate in collaboration with employees of the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences. The count covered both Lake Issyk-Kul and the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir.

Ecological and demographic monitoring of birds and their habitats is conducted in this region on a regular basis during winter, spring, and autumn. Information on the number and distribution of birds allows for the analysis of the ecological state of water bodies, ecosystem balance, and serves as an important indicator of changes in the environment.

Experts note that such counts help to study the composition of wintering and migrating bird species. The Issyk-Kul region plays a significant role in the migration routes of Central Asia, making these studies particularly important from a scientific perspective.

The Ministry of Natural Resources emphasizes that the results of the monitoring serve as a scientific basis for developing management and conservation decisions, which, in turn, contributes to the preservation of biodiversity and the rational use of the country's natural resources.
