The Minister of Natural Resources and the Head of the World Bank Office Discussed the Implementation of a $50 Million Project

The Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, Meder Mashiev, met with the head of the World Bank office in Kyrgyzstan, Hugh Riddle.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the meeting was also attended by Gayane Minasyan, the World Bank’s practice manager for environmental issues in Europe and Central Asia, as well as Frank van Worden and Aida Bayalieva, leading specialists and co-leaders of the AQIP project team.

Hugh Riddle noted the positive results of joint work and the progressive reforms in the field of ecology being implemented in Kyrgyzstan during his speech.

Mashiev spoke about current initiatives within the climate agenda, as well as the implementation of the mountain agenda and measures to protect the biosphere zone of Lake Issyk-Kul.

During the discussion, aspects of the implementation of a $50 million project aimed at improving air quality in the country were also addressed.

One of the key issues was the modernization of wastewater treatment facilities, as well as the identification of priority projects in the field of conservation of Kyrgyzstan's biological resources.
