From April 22 to 24, 2026, Astana will host the Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026), which will bring together global and regional leaders to discuss key climate and environmental issues in Central Asia, reports the Associated Press.

Under the motto "A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future," this event will take place.

The summit is organized by the government of Kazakhstan in collaboration with international and regional partners, positioning this event as a permanent platform for strategic dialogue, coordination of actions, and the formation of partnerships in the fields of ecology, climate, and sustainable development.

RES 2026 is expected to establish Astana as an international center for developing practical solutions to pressing environmental challenges in the region. Key discussion topics will include water resource scarcity, glacier melting, land degradation, loss of biodiversity, and increasing pressure on limited natural resources.

The summit program includes three days of high-level plenary sessions and more than 20 thematic and country-specific sessions. Participants will focus on the "green" transition from ambitions to actions, strengthening climate resilience, food security, sustainable management of natural resources, and financing mechanisms for environmental initiatives. Special attention will be given to technology, education, and digital solutions in the context of shaping a sustainable future.

The following participants are expected to attend the summit:

• Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan

• Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan

• Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan

• Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of the Republic of Armenia

• Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, President of Mongolia

The organizers emphasize that the summit will not only be a venue for exchanging views but also a catalyst for concrete projects and investment solutions aimed at enhancing the resilience of energy, water, and food systems in the region.

The initiators aim for RES 2026 to strengthen regional cooperation and implement practical measures that align with global climate goals and sustainable development objectives.
