Nazina Alykulova, head of the pricing sector of the antimonopoly policy and pricing department of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan, spoke on the "Birinchi Radio" program about actions aimed at slowing down the rise in prices for socially significant goods.

According to her, the list of such goods was approved on September 8, 2023, by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers. Within this framework, temporary state price regulation may be introduced for these goods on the domestic market.

The list includes 16 items, of which 11 are food products such as flour, bread and bakery products, milk, oils (vegetable and butter), meat, sugar, rice, pasta, eggs, and vegetables (including potatoes, carrots, and onions).

Currently, state price regulation for meat continues, and maximum prices have been established.

"Every year, the government develops an action plan to control the rise in prices. This may include bans on the import and export of social goods, provision of benefits, market analysis, and organization of agricultural fairs. In general, a number of measures are provided that are indeed being implemented," noted Alykulova.

She also mentioned the existence of the Law of Kyrgyzstan "On Pricing," which includes preventive measures to curb price increases.

"These measures involve agreements between government agencies and enterprises. For example, there is an agreement between the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Water and Agriculture, and flour milling enterprises to restrain prices on flour. This agreement has been successfully in place for over five years, and the results are positive. The price of first-grade locally produced flour is currently 35 soms. There is also an agreement between sugar producers, retail chains, and government agencies regarding the sale of sugar. We are all consumers and feel the fluctuations and rise in prices, which is related to our dependence on imports," added Nazina Alykulova.
