A scientific forecast of water resources in Kyrgyzstan will be developed until 2076

Kyrgyzstan is aiming for a fundamental reform of its approach to water resource management, relying on scientific data collected over a long period. At a recent meeting in the Jogorku Kenesh, the Deputy Director of the Water Resources Service, Abdybai Zhayloobayev, reported that the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan has begun work on creating a comprehensive forecast of the state of water resources for the next fifty years.

Scientists will conduct a thorough analysis of all water basins in the republic. The result of their efforts will be a scientifically justified scenario that takes into account global climate changes and allows for the planning of water resource distribution for decades to come. At the same time, the agency is conducting a complete inventory of water sources: all wells and underground horizons will be compiled into a single digital database for more effective monitoring and accounting.

At a meeting with the Vice-Speaker of Parliament Chyngyz Azhybaev, Zhayloobayev shared the agency's plans. During the discussion, the deputy raised important irrigation issues that require urgent attention, especially in border areas.

In particular, Azhybaev emphasized the situation in the Batken region, noting that farmers in the Leilek district are experiencing serious difficulties due to a lack of irrigation water. He called for the urgent restoration of water supply systems in the villages of Baul and Kok-Tash, emphasizing that the condition of irrigation networks has a direct impact on food security and the standard of living of the local population.
