The Ministry of Finance of Russia has initiated a discussion on the legalization of online casinos in the country. As reported by "Kommersant," this proposal was sent to President Vladimir Putin by Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.

According to the plan, the tax rate on online casino activities will be 30 percent, which could generate about 100 billion rubles in budget revenue annually.

Currently, gambling in online format is prohibited in Russia, and only betting shops and totalizators can legally conduct such activities.

In its letter, the Ministry of Finance proposed to consider the possibility of lifting the ban on organizing online casinos under certain conditions. These include appointing an organization operator at the government's suggestion and creating a mechanism for accepting bets through a Unified Center for Transfer Accounting, similar to how it is done with bookmakers.

Additionally, the document states that online casino operators will be granted powers to combat gambling addiction.
